Mount
Utsayantha Project Meetings We are meeting again next month on Monday, October 24th at 6PM. In addition, we still have two more volunteer work days scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 15th (roof and trail work) and Saturday, October 29th (roof only if needed). Below is a recap of what was discussed: Aree Bray started out the meeting by announcing that he is meeting with a security company from Oneonta today (9/28) to develop a security plan for the mountaintop including lights, security cameras, etc. Waylen Bray reported that he had ordered 25 T-shirts as a thank-you for volunteers, and he had been informed that the electric service to the tower building should be connected in the next week. Helen Budrock agreed to follow up with Waylen and his staff at the Village offices regarding the paperwork on the Bonacic parks grant, with the goal being to order the picnic tables, fire rings and other items in the next few months for delivery over the Winter. Helen also promised to FAX a sample property lease agreement to Cletus Benjamin as a sample of a legal document that could be used to gain access to private property for the new trail down the side of the mountain. Cletus Benjamin has been busy researching the potential location(s) of caves rumored to be located on Mt. Utsayantha and also reported that the Utsayantha Builders had offered their help replacing the roof on the spring house. Cletus also reported that Americorps volunteers from SUNY Delhi would be working on the mountain next week clearing debris from the observation building, clearing trails, cutting tree limbs to open up views, etc. Cletus also offered to follow up with his contacts at BOCES to see if they would be willing to rebuild the stairs inside the observation building as a class project before the snow flies and the mountain becomes inaccessible. Jim Kopp reported that progress continues to be made on the observation building roof. Two sides of the roof are now completed, with help from volunteers from the local union. He hopes that the union volunteers will be able to get back up there in the next week or two as they made quick work of the roofing the last time. Jim and Waylen will also follow up with a local welding shop to see if we can use his brake to bend the sheet metal into caps for the roof peaks. That’s all for now! Keep up the good work and I’ll see you next month!!! Helen Any who are interested in helping should contact the mayor by calling his home at 607.652.7978 or Village Hall 607.652.6671. Mail can be
